Ray very nice video and info im KFLODESS6 on WUG look me up nice job….Steve
VERY VERY well done and informative.
Thanks for the kind response. It wasn’t easy climbing on my roof with a camera! I tried to put in the information that I wish I had when I first got started.
Thanks for the nice comment! I did check out your weather station – Starkey Ranch? I saw Odessa and immediately thought of Odessa, TX then thought from your ID it must be Florida! You have a nice meadow to look at. My nearest weather station is also a ranch, Steinke Ranch. My location is Canyon Lake, TX, in case you could not tell with zip of 78133. Ray K
I have had a chance to visit with the nice people at Davis and mentioned your dilemma. They invite you to talk to the customer service. Personally, I have never had a problem with Davis equipment, short a lightning strike – not their fault!
I watched this video once again and I still love it. I wish I had 700 bucks to spend on a weather station. Nice job Ray!
Extremely well made video, better than many commercial videos!
Great video Ray! This is Don, from near Nashville. My budget won’t yet allow me to create a station like you have, but I did recently purchase a Springfield Wireless station, upgrading to the “best” unit I’ve had so far. Looking forward to the set-up, when it’s a little warmer here. Have been a weather enthusiast since 1966, when I first entered radio broadcasting. Even though my unit isn’t on a level with yours, I still got some useful tips for set-up. Thanks and regards! Don Coleman in TN.
Thanks for the nice comments. I am glad it is helpful. I was motivated by remembering the difficult time I had figuring out what was involved and what all I would need to get it all on line. Trouble is that we are in an extreme drought at the moment and the rain gauge is nearly useless! Ray
Thanks for the good comments! I really appreciate it.
Ray
yea i am now starting to get attached to a vantage pro installed in my neigborhood the reason i didnt like davis is bacause 2 years ago when i called them i couldnt really tel wheather or not the line was faulty or the one the person i was talking with was upset but i only got a few word concerning prices and it sounded like the phone was but back then dial tone and i assumed they hung up on me althought i dont know that so i might call then again and see what happens
Have you ever been to Frys Electronics? They sell web cams that start at 30 $.
I called Davis yesteday, and talked about what happened. I mentioned the hanging up. They said they were sorry for it, and if it happens again I should remeber her name so they can get her strait. But they were nice yesterday. I am getting a job soon, so I can make some money to buy a Davis Vantage Pro2. I want to start out with the Vantage Pro2, and eventually add things like solar and uv sensors. Leaf wetness, soil temp and moisture station. And Weather Link and Weather Link Agriculture.
Hi Ray. Very good video. I own a vantage pro wireless station since 12/03 and a vantage pro2 since 10/07. These are the finest stations available for the money in my opinion. Do you have a website so I may see your weather statistics?
Good for you!
It’s raining in North Texas so I don’t have a job yet, being the job I’m applying for is weather dependent. But when I get the job I will save up to a Vantage Pro 2. Or the new Davis Vantage Vue I might do the Vantage Pro 2 because of the ability to add things like Weather Link, solar and uv sensors, and soil and leaf wetness sensors.
very nice video! thanks for the info. Though i think it would be usefull to mention the sort of start up costs involved in setting up a system I notice that you Vantage II is quite an expensive version. Whats your opinion on LaGuardia PWS systems? they are cheaper than Davis
sorry i meant La Crosse not LaGuardia
I upload to Weather Underground and you can type in zip code 78133 and look for Redhawke!
La Guardia is probably a good choice. I have never used anything but the Davis Vantage Pro2. I had probably $800 invested, but it has all the features I wanted and has certainly been durable, excepting the lightening strike on the anemometer!
Thanks for the info. Want to start my own station.
Hi. This is an excellent video but I think it would be better if you went into a bit more detail like telling us where you can get this stuff and the proper names of everything so we can search for it maybe? It would be great if you could put it in the description because I’m very interested
Great Job thanks for the info
Thanks, great video.
